Violet's Story

My darling little daughter....

Violet Jane Rappleye 6lbs 15 oz 18in
It was 8:30am when I had a pretty strong contraction that was immediately followed by my water breaking. It wasn't a lot of fluid so I wasn't completely sure it was my water. I then woke Dick up and told him I thought my water had just broke and we should head to the hospital. Well being two and s half weeks before I was actually due, I wasn't really ready to go to the hospital yet. I threw some stuff from my list in a bag and then I woke Silas up. I called Megan to have her meet me at the hospital to pick Silas up. I was on the phone with her telling her what had happened as I was getting Silas dressed. I then started packing a bag for Silas. Megan said to me, "What are you doing don't pack him a bag get in the car and get to the hospital." So I grabbed a few things and we all got in the car.

While driving the the hospital I called my doctor to let him know we were heading to the hospital. He asked me a couple a questions. One being, "are you going to make it to the hospital." I thought that was pretty funny. Of course we would make it. Throughout the 20+ minute drive my contractions just kept get closer together and stronger. When we got the the hospital I went in while Dick parked the car and Megan met him in the parking lot to pick Silas up. I went up the Labor and Delivery, they were expecting me since Dr. Corey had called them. They took me into a room I changed into a gown and the nurse came in to ask me some questions. Dick came in a few minutes after I did, then returned down stairs to check me in. The nurse wasn't sure that my water had broken, but was reassured that it indeed was upon checking me. I then decided to let people know what was going on.

The first time the nurse checked me I was  dilated to a 4. This was also just after 10am. Shortly after they moved me into a room. My doctor came in and checked me, I was then at a 6.  The nurse started to prepare a bath for me. I was feeling great. Oh and the nurse was amazing and reassured me that I would be able to deliver her naturally. (This being with only local anesthesia.) she was so encouraging through the entire process. When my tub was ready, I told the nurse I was feeling pressure and she checked me before letting me get in the tub. Well I was dilated to an 8, so no bath for me. Instead I was going to start pushing and have this baby. It seemed to all happen so quickly.  I pushed through two contractions and my sweet little girl was here! She was born at 11am. She was ready and wasn't waiting any longer. After the delivery I was surprised at how good I felt. I wasn't even tired I nursed the baby, and just held her and enjoyed her sweetness. It was a great experience for me.

pictures to come...

I can't believe my baby is 18 months old. He has been so much fun and his speech and personality have exploded lately. He is still very social and likes people most of the time. He has started nursery and is loving it. The leaders all love him. He is a pretty easy and will just go with the flow. Also what kid doesn't like to sing, dance, have snack time and play with toys. The only thing he would want to change is to have me there with him. He doesn't like when I leave him, but it only takes him about 10 seconds to warm up to things. He has also shown interest in potty training. He asks to go sometimes and I encourage but we aren't ready for that big step just yet. Right now I am trying to prepare him to be a big brother. He likes to use the Doppler on his belly and mine to listen to the baby. He says some really cute things and is getting bigger everyday. He is very independent. He wants to do things on his own all the time. This boy is so sweet and very sensitive. He loves to cuddle daddy and rock in the rocking chair. He is also all boy. He loves guns swords and Legos.  He loves to play with his cousins and all things animal. He loves the color orange. "Sorange". He is talking all the time and saying new words all the time. He mimics all of what we do and say. So the time to be on my best behavior has definitely come. Silas is going to be an awesome big brother I can't wait to see him evolve into this new role.  We love this cute little joy so much! I am so glad to be his "Mom Mom".
